Ashleigh Barty was the number 8 seed and she managed to execute a phenomenal range of things in her creative and crisp game. The only thing she was required to do was fire on all cylinders to win a tournament and she did exactly that while was she playing against Vondrousova to claim a win in only 70 minutes. It was very similar to the men’s semi-final victory by Dominic Thiem.

Disbelief and joy crossed Ashleigh’s face when she realised that she won. The managed to become the first player from Australia to lift the Suzanne-Lenglen Cup in 46 years where she fulfilled two prophecies on social media that were made this week by Rod Laver, a legendary countryman.

The only misstep from Ashleigh occurred during the national anthem of the prestigious trophy ceremony where she had to be told where to stand.
